Yoweri Museveni, the President of Uganda, has approved some of the world’s worst anti-LGBTQ legislation.
The measure calls for the death penalty for “aggravated homosexuality,” which includes having sex with a juvenile, having intercourse while HIV positive, and having incest.
The measure criminalises sex education for the gay community and makes it illegal not to report aggravated homosexuality violators to the authorities. It advocates for “rehabilitation” of LGBT offenders using highly discredited conversion therapy.

Earlier this year, Museveni brought the bill back to the country’s Parliament for changes.
Anita Annet Among, the parliament’s speaker, praised the bill’s signing, saying it “answered the cries of our people.”
“I thank His Excellency, the President, for his unwavering commitment to Uganda.” “I thank my colleagues in Parliament, with great humility, for standing up to bullies and doomsday conspiracy theorists in the interest of the country,” she continued.
According to CNN, Henry Mukiibi, an activist who aids LGBTQ Ugandans, believes that people would take the law into their own hands: “I believe this is horrifying. We weren’t expecting this; we expected he’d be warned against it. We’re about to be tortured. I’m just frightened of what comes next. People have been waiting for the bill to be signed before attacking us. We’re all going to die.”
