Two individuals lost their lives on Sunday night after the automobile they were driving in plummeted into a river at Ikpoba Hill in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

A source informed a News outlet on Monday that the car was heading from Ring Road towards Ramat Park at high speed when the driver lost control and struck the sidewalk before it crashed into the river.

The source said that the collision resulted in traffic congestion on Monday as commuters were kept stuck for hours as the officers and men of the Edo State Road Safety Corps tried to get the situation under control.

Confirming the event, the state Road Safety Corps Public Education Officer, Oreva Ukoh, who spoke via Theresa Momoh, an official of the Public Education Department, said the passengers of the car were likely returning from a party on Sunday night.

She added the driver of the automobile was perhaps at a fast speed and could not manage the vehicle.

Ukoh stated that two individuals had already perished before a rescue could arrive for the passengers of the car.

She claimed, “Two folks were engaged in the mishap, one male adult and a female adult. They perished in the river before aid could reach them.

“It is apparent that the guy, who was the driver, was on a fast speed since that night, there were few road users on that route, so he probably had the entire road to himself.

“It’s a surprise to discover that the automobile crashed into the river. Yet, it is a consequence of speeding. They were dressed like individuals coming from a party,” Ukoh stated.
