The singer revealed the news on Wednesday’s episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast with host Alex Cooper.
According to the 37-year-old hitmaker, it became clear to her after she and the superstar rapper welcomed their first kid that they weren’t meant to be together long-term.
Ciara, who is expecting her fourth kid and third with husband Russell Wilson, described realising she and her ex didn’t have a future together to having a complete change of taste.
‘It’s almost as if your taste receptors shift,’ she told Entertainment Tonight.
‘You also need to look in the mirror and reflect on yourself from time to time. ‘For example, what are some things I could do differently in my life?’ She went on. ‘I’m searching for a change, but what exactly does that entail?’
She and Future, real name Nayvadius DeMun Cash, began dating in 2012 and welcomed their son Future Zahir in May 2014.
In response to his alleged infidelity, the couple divorced in August of that year.
She went on to say that she became more serious after becoming a mother, implying that Future lacked the same maturity.
‘When you have a child, it’s very important to me, there’s no time to mess about,’ she explained. ‘I am now in charge of another life, so what am I doing, how am I thinking about it?’
Ciara went on to claim that when she was in a relationship, she sought “joy” and wanted “to make sure my cup is full.”
However, her brief encounter with Future left her feeling spent and ‘weary.’
‘When you’re weary, you’re tired, and no one wants to be tired all of the time,’ she went on.
‘Those are the things that come to me when I’m processing, when I’m at a crossroads in my life,’ Ciara continued.
She began dating quarterback Russell Wilson in 2015, and they were engaged by March of 2016.
Ciara, the singer, has revealed that she realised she and her ex-boyfriend Future were not compatible.
In July of that year, the couple married in a castle in Cheshire, England.
