A man named Sunday Oluwafemi was sentenced to life in prison by a High Court in Akure, Ondo State, for defiling a nine-year-old girl, gistpeople reports
The convict was apprehended for the crime in Akure in 2019 while living with his wife’s niece. And charged with rape on one count before Justice Yemi Fasanmi.
Oluwafemi committed the offense on November 24, 2019, in violation of Section 31 (1) of the Ondo State Child’s Rights Laws of 2012 and Sections 218 and 257 of the Ondo State Criminal Code Law of 2006.
Following a series of arguments in court, the Justice determined that the prosecution had proven the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
“The confessional statement of the defendant, together with that of the medical doctor, demonstrated without equivocation that the convict indeed committed the offence,” Justice Yemi ruled. The defendant betrayed the victim’s and his brother-in-trust, law’s who saw him as a good father and guardian.
“The evidence of the charge was corroborated by several penetrations in the vault of the victim’s vaginal. As a result, I conclude that the defendant had multiple sexual encounters with the victim. And the mandatory provision states that if a defendant is found guilty of rape, he faces life in prison.
“I hereby sentence the defendant to life imprisonment based on the foregoing reasoning and in strict adherence to the provisions of the law.”
