The Ukrainian government said on Friday morning, May 26, that it shot down 10 missiles and over 20 drones launched by Russia in nocturnal strikes on the capital Kyiv, the southern city of Dnipro, and the eastern provinces.

The office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy claimed in a statement that a fire had broken out on the outskirts of Kharkiv after an oil store was hit twice, and that pumping equipment for oil products had been damaged.

Russia has increased missile and drone attacks, mostly on logistical and infrastructure assets, ahead of an impending counter-offensive by Ukraine.

During the nocturnal attacks, the Ukrainian airforce reported it shot down 10 missiles fired from the Caspian Sea, 23 Iranian-made Shahed drones, and two reconnaissance drones.
