Rapper Kodak Black booked at Florida jail and released after posting $250K bond

On Monday, June 26, American rapper Kodak Black was jailed for about an hour at a Florida jail.

In July 2022, Kodak was arrested and charged with opioid trafficking after police said they discovered 31 oxycodone tablets in his automobile. He secured $75,000 bond and was released on pretrial supervision, which included mandatory drug testing.

Bradford Cohen, the rapper’s lawyer, stated that it was a good thing because his client had been on a tight leash during his pretrial release for his prescription drug case. He was required to routinely check in with authorities and submit to mandatory urine tests, but he failed to do so recently, prompting them to go to court on Monday.

Cohen stated in court that he fought for the removal of the rigorous pretrial supervision, and the judge agreed but also increased his bond from $75,000 to $250,000. Kodak had to go through the jail booking process again due to the bond increase.

Kodak was eventually released from incarceration after posing for a new mugshot at the Broward County jail and posting the new bond. The rapper was in and out of jail in less than an hour, and he had to pay the difference between his previous bond and his new bond of $175,000.

Cohen sees it as a win for Kodak since it allows the rapper to travel and perform without having to check in with pretrial services.
