SERAP, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, has called President Muhammadu Buhari to form a presidential panel of inquiry to investigate accusations of missing 149 million barrels of crude oil.

Recall that 146 million barrels of crude oil are missing, according to a document in the 2019 audited reports by the Auditor General of the Federation and the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI).

In a statement issued on Sunday, SERAP’s deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare, urged Buhari to investigate and prosecute those guilty.

According to the group, Buhari’s government has seven days to begin the investigation or risk legal action.

“As President and substantive Minister of Petroleum Resources, you and your government must prioritize getting to the bottom of these allegations and use the rest of your term to ensure justice and accountability for these serious crimes against the Nigerian people,” the statement said in part.
