After being pursued by paparazzi in New York, Prince Harry, his bride Meghan Markle, and her mother were involved in a “near catastrophic” automobile pursuit.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 16, after the couple attended the Women of Vision Award celebration in New York.

“Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Ms Ragland were involved in a near catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi,” the Duke of Sussex’ spokeswoman told Reuters.
“This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians, and two NYPD (New York Police Department) officers,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
“While being a public figure attracts public attention, it should never come at the expense of anyone’s safety.” Given the methods by which these photographs were collected, disseminating them encourages a highly intrusive behavior that is dangerous to all parties concerned,” the statement added.
The event marked Prince Harry’s first public appearance since his father, King Charles, was crowned. Meghan Markle did not attend the ceremony.
Meghan Markle accepted the prize and encouraged women to find inspiration to fight for equality.

“I am a woman who is still inspired and driven by this organization,” she says, gazing over at co-founder Gloria Steinem.

Prince Harry and Meghan left their royal responsibilities in 2020 and moved to the United States.
