Policing should be technologically driven – Akwa Ibom Police

Must read

SP Odiko Macdon, the Police Public Relations Officer for Akwa Ibom State Command, has stated that for security to be strengthened further, the entire apparatus should be digitalized.

He especially cited the installation of Closed-Circuit Television, or CCTV, cameras in all of Akwa Ibom State’s main cities.

The Police spokesperson disclosed this on Tuesday while hosting members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ Correspondents’ Chapel in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State’s capital.

It may be noted that the governor of the state, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, proposed the installation of CCTV cameras throughout the state.

The PPRO stated that CCTV cameras will aid in combating insecurity and urged the new governor, Pastor Umo Eno, to prioritize it.

“We are calling on the incoming administration, whom we believe has the capacity to do so, to digitalize and make Akwa Ibom State policing technologically driven,” he said.

“Let’s install CCTV cameras throughout Uyo.” It is practical and feasible. If we can’t have it in all the communities and local governments, let’s have it in Ikot Ekpene, Eket, and most towns in Akwa Ibom.

“I support community policing because it will help to reduce crime and criminality in our villages.”

He also warned of the increased frequency of auto thefts in the state and urged car owners to keep their vehicles as secure as possible.

He revealed that the command had recovered seven stolen exotic vehicles from various sites throughout the state.

While confirming that a three-man syndicate was engaged in the theft, the PPRO stated that the command was working hard to ensure that the heinous crime was completely eradicated.

“It pains the Commissioner of Police that one of the crimes we are battling in Akwa Ibom State is an increase in car theft,” he stated. Car theft is on the rise, and I urge Akwa Ibom residents to keep a close eye on their automobiles at all times.

“As a command, we recently recovered about seven exotic cars that were stolen from various parts of this state, traced to the receivers, recovered, and returned to the people.”

“In this town, there are about three syndicates.” You park your car, and when you go in and out, your car has vanished. That farce is soon to come to an end.”
