Pastor Adewale Giwa has joined those calling for a new presidential election in Nigeria.
The leader of the Awaiting the Second Coming of Christ Ministry also advocated for a regional government system to address unique challenges.
Giwa said in a statement on Monday that as Christians around the world celebrate Christ’s resurrection, “Nigeria must rise from the dead and lead by example.”
The cleric urged the judiciary to “wake up” and fulfill its civic duties of ensuring transparency, justice, and truth.
Giwa claimed that some judicial officers had become “tools in the hands of the executive,” and he advised them to take the people’s side.
The church leader said of the February 25 presidential election, “even the blind can testify that it was organized in a fraudulent manner as usual.”
“I hope that the judiciary will make history this time by ordering a new election to determine the country’s future.”
“How come we can’t stop making Nigeria a laughingstock?” “How come it’s so difficult for the electoral body to organize a transparent election?” he joked.
A new presidential election, according to the statement, will appease “the good citizens who are angry with the conduct of the exercise.”
Giwa went on to say that an office holder who was not “duly and transparently elected” would not perform well in office.
“Any leader elected in a fraudulent manner cannot provide a positive outcome for the citizens.” Nigerians must not fall prey to oppressors for another eight years,” he added.
