Sergio Rico, the goalkeeper for Paris Saint-Germain, has been hospitalized following an incident at his home involving a mule cart and a runaway horse.

Rico’s family claimed in a statement that Rico was allowed to visit the El Rocio pilgrimage in Huelva, southern Spain, after PSG won the French Ligue 1 title against Strasbourg on Saturday, May 27.

Rico was on his way to mass near El Rocio’s Hermitage when the “serious mishap” occurred.

“Sergio is in good hands, fighting to recover while receiving the best care from the medical team at Virgen del Rocio Hospital (in Seville, Spain),” the family stated.

“We are now awaiting medical results, which we hope will be positive so that we can inform you of his improvement as soon as possible.”

“Paris Saint-Germain learned of the accident involving its player Sergio Rico on Sunday and remains in constant contact with his loved ones,” PSG said in a statement on Twitter.

“The entire Red and Blue community stands behind them wholeheartedly.”
Rico was on the bench during Strasbourg’s 1-1 tie. PSG’s ninth triumph in the last 11 seasons.
