After an investigation revealed that the baby tested positive for fatal levels of fentanyl, the parents of an 8-month-old kid who died on May 31 were arrested last week.

At about 5:15 p.m., officers from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office in Florida rushed to a residence on Bee Ridge Road for reports that an 8-month-old newborn had died.

An investigation at the scene indicated that the baby was discovered lifeless before being transported to the hospital by the 8-month-old’s father, Nicholas Alexander, and a friend.

Carissa Alexander, the child’s mother, was caring for the youngster when it was discovered face-down on a cushion inside the home.

Police detectives in Florida claim that the baby was not checked on between 10:30 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. that day, until Nicholas returned home from work.

Police allegedly took blood and urine samples from the pair while they were being questioned, and both were supposedly tainted with contaminants.

According to the sheriff’s office, the baby had been dead for several hours and tested positive for fatal quantities of fentanyl.

The sheriff’s office charged Nicholas and Carissa with aggravated homicide of a child, and they were being held without bond at the Sarasota County Correctional Facility as of press time.
