Former Enugu State Governor and Senator representing Enugu East, Dr Chimaroke Nnamani has lost his re-election campaign to the Labour Party contender, Kelvin Chukwu.
The LP candidate polled 69, 136 whereas Nnamani of the Peoples Democratic Party, earned 48, 701 votes.
Chukwu succeeded his brother, Oyibo Chukwu, who was gruesomely assassinated a few days before the February 25, presidential and National Assembly elections.
Oyibo’s death led to the postponing of the Enugu East senatorial election to March 18 same day the gubernatorial and State Assembly elections would be conducted.
Meanwhile, Senator Nnamani has extended a congratulations message to his competitor, Chukwu over his win in Saturday’s senate election.
The former governor in the statement stated the result of the election represented the aspirations of the majority of constituents adding “the people have spoken.”
He said that “The outcome of the election is in sync with the mood of the time in the South East zone who have connected with the Labour Party. A opposite outcome would have negated the trend.
He stated, “I wish the Enugu East senator-elect a good stay in the upper legislative chamber.”
He also advised his followers to keep calm and accept the conclusion of the election in good faith.
