Nigerian man arrested with drugs worth over N1.7m in India

On Saturday, June 10, 2023, police reported a 35-year-old Nigerian man was arrested in Thane district, Maharashtra, for accused possession of mephedrone valued more than Rs 1 crore.

The anti-narcotics unit of the Mira Bbayander-Vasai Virar police intercepted the accused on Thursday in the Mira Road area, according to Inspector Amar Marathe.

 

According to Inspector Marathe, the suspect attempted to run but was apprehended by police and taken to the MVV Police Station.

During the interview and search, the police team discovered 503 grams of mephedrone worth more than Rs 1 crore on the suspects.

A subsequent investigation found that the man was a resident of the Pragati Nagar slum in Nallasopara and used to distribute contraband to various portions of Mumbai and its surrounding areas.

“The accused, who was being held at Yerwada Jail, had recently been granted bail in a similar case, and some of his associates are also being investigated.” “A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act,” Inspector Marathe stated.
