Nwachi was apprehended in Abuja on Wednesday after Sayers accused him of duping her into a false marriage and defrauding her of $200,000 in savings.
According to an EFCC statement, Nwachi’s ruse involved the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing in Abuja offering a bogus contract.
The suspect allegedly forced Sayers to finance the contract’s execution until the petitioner contacted the Ministry with the contract papers, which were discovered to be fake.
“I was used to transferring funds to him. I had just married him, even though I did not feel confident in my choice to have married him,” the EFCC quoted her saying.
Sayers admitted to being suicidal on and off after discovering the suspect had duped her.
Toyota Venza and Lexus ES300 vehicles, as well as expensive wristwatches, two Apple iPhones, two iPhone laptops, an international passport, and ATM cards, were recovered from Nwachi.
A total of $2204 was recovered from him. Nwachi will be charged in court as soon as the investigation is completed.
