Nigerian actress remanded in prison for tampering with Naira notes

Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, a Nollywood actress and skit maker, was remanded in Kirikiri correctional centre by a Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos State, for tampering with the new Naira notes, gistpeople reports

The actress was remanded in custody pending the outcome of her bail application in court.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, arraigned the actress on Monday before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke on a two-count charge.

“That you Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, on the 28th of January 2023, at Monarch event centre, Lekki, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, while dancing during a social occasion tampered with the sum of N100, 000.00 issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, by spraying it at the occasion,” one of the counts read. You thus committed an offense that is punishable under Section 21 (1) of the Central Bank Act of 2007.

She entered a not guilty plea to the charge.

S.I Sulaiman, the prosecution’s counsel, requested a trial date from the court and requested that the defendant be remanded in prison custody.

Goncalves Adenike, the defendant’s counsel, urged the court to admit the defendant to bail until the case was heard, and that she be remanded in EFCC custody until the completion of her bail terms.

The Judge postponed the decision on the bail application until Wednesday, February 15, 2023, and remanded the defendant in prison.

Remember that the actress was arrested on February 1, 2023, by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Fraud Related Offences Commission, ICPC, after a video of her spraying and stepping on new Naira notes at a party went viral on social media.
