A mother’s skin began to peel from her face when she attempted to cook eggs in the microwave using a technique she learned from a TikTok competition.
Shafia Bashir, 37, has detailed her agonizing experience after employing a ‘TikTok hack’ to make a poached egg.
She poured some boiling water into a mug before adding the egg and heating it for a few minutes in the microwave.
However, when she placed a cold spoon on the egg, it exploded ‘like a fountain’ and burned the right side of her face, leaving her in the’most painful’ pain of her life.
Cooking shelled eggs in the microwave is risky because the casing traps heat.
After you remove the egg from the microwave, it will continue to cook on its own, and any disruption can result in an explosion.
The single mother is now warning others not to tackle the feat.
”I simply don’t want anyone else to go through that, because it’s trending on TikTok,” she said. It was the most agonizing ache I’d ever experienced.”
‘It was a frightening period for me. I was in excruciating pain.
‘I washed my face under the tap and then had to ask a friend to watch my daughter so I could go to A&E.’
Shafia, from Bolton, Greater Manchester, explained that she had been making the dish for three years before deciding to make it on May 12.
‘I did it just the way I typically do it,’ she explained. I’d already cooked the toast since I was starving!
”I found out about it via my ex-mother-in-law. She demonstrated how to create a microwave poached egg. I’d been at it for three years.”
”I boiled the kettle, half-filled the mug with water, added salt and an egg, and microwaved it for a minute. It wasn’t done, so I fried it for another minute.
“I put my face under the water for 20 minutes after it happened.” However, the fire burned for 12 hours. It simply kept going.’
Shafia claimed she was traumatized by the occurrence and promised never to eat an egg again.
