A Syrian asylum seeker attacked several children in a knife attack in Annecy, southeast France, according to local officials.
On Thursday, June 8, a Syrian asylum seeker stabbed six children aged two to three when they were visiting a park with their kindergarten. As of press time, two youngsters were in critical condition.
After carrying out the attack, the alleged attacker was stopped by concerned locals, according to a video circulated on social media.
In connection with the attack, the suspect has been apprehended.
According to the interior ministry, French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne will travel to Annecy alongside Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin on Thursday.
Health Minister François Braun expressed his condolences to the victims of the knife assault via Twitter.
“All my thoughts immediately go to the people injured by an individual armed with a knife in Annecy, and to their loved ones,” Braun wrote on Twitter.
“I applaud the quick mobilization of emergency services to care for the victims, particularly the Urgent Medical Aid Service (SAMU).”
The French National Assembly held a minute of silence for those injured in the incident.
