Messi’s current contract with the French giants expires at the end of the season in May, and talks have taken place to extend the Argentina icon’s terms.
However, according to the French newspaper L’Equipe on Wednesday, Messi is becoming increasingly unsure about staying in France, and Inter Miami is the frontrunner to sign him.
Inter Miami is owned by David Beckham and coached by Phil Neville, a former Manchester United teammate.
According to L’Equipe, Messi’s family likes the idea of him living in the United States because he has a home in Miami and is known to visit frequently.
Messi’s father, Jorge, is also his agent and was reportedly in talks with PSG about his future on Wednesday.
Last November, Sportsmail reported that Miami and Messi were close to reaching an agreement on a potential contract – salary cap rules in American soccer would prevent Messi from earning anything like the $1.45m-a-week he currently earns in Paris, but the opportunity to build his brand in America could prove even more lucrative.
Messi, 35, would still command a salary that would make him the highest-paid soccer player in US history.
