Idowu Adekanye, a middle-aged driver, has been charged with kidnapping and murdering his boss, Omololu Olowosoyo, in Ondo State’s Irele Local Government Area.
Olowosoyo was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by the suspect in collaboration with other accomplices.
Adekanye was arraigned before the Akure state magistrate court on a four-count charge of conspiracy, kidnapping, and murder.
During the arraignment on Friday, March 3, the police prosecutor, Taiwo Oniyere, told the court that the defendant committed the crime around 10 p.m. on January 14, 2023, along the Ore- Ode Irele road in the state’s Odigbo Local Government Area.
Oniyere also told the court that the defendant plotted with others at large to kidnap his boss and transport him to an unknown location while accompanying him on a business trip to Osogbo, Osun State.
The defendant was also accused of strangling and killing the victim with a stick.
According to the prosecutor, the offense violates Sections 6(b) and 2(a) and (b) of the Ondo State Anti-kidnapping Act of 2010, as well as Section 316 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Vol. I Laws of Ondo State 2006.
He requested that the defendant be remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending the Director of Public Prosecutions’ advice.
However, D.S Akinbo, the defense counsel, opposed the application, claiming that the case was not ready for hearing because his client was served on the day of arraignment. However, Magistrate R.O Yakubu postponed the case until Friday.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased businessman has petitioned the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 17, Akure, Ondo State, to conduct a discreet investigation into the murder, according to Punch.
