Man quits job in the city then moves into jungle where he drinks rain water and grows his own food to ‘get back in touch with nature’

An American guy resigned his city job and is now living off the grid in a treehouse he constructed himself in an attempt to “escape the matrix and get back in touch with nature.”

Robert Breton, 35, took to TikTok and YouTube to share how he “achieved his dream life” by building his own house, living on 100 percent rainwater, and growing his own food.

According to Metro, Breton worked as a grocery store cashier in 2020 when he chose to leave his life in Northern California cities and embark on a new adventure living away from humanity in the Hawaiian forest.

In an effort to find the right spot to live, he paid $29,850 for a quarter acre of land and built his own two-story home.

Breton claims the 200-square-foot house is only 5.5 feet above the ground, is 20 feet tall, 14 feet by 14 feet, and took him two years to build.

The “treehouse” has a working sink, a little fridge, shelves, a futon, and a loft with “sleeping quarters.”

Breton gathers rainwater from his roof in a big 300-gallon tank, where it is purified and routed to his house’s faucets.

Breton describes his motivation for coming to the Hawaiian jungle as wanting to be immersed in all of Hawaii’s wild animals and flowers.

“It’s just absolutely incredible being immersed into nature itself, so I wanted to capitalise on that when having the vision of building this house,” Breton stated in 2021.

Breton’s TV, laptop, and phone are all powered by the two solar panels attached to his residence.

The panels provide 400 watts of power, which allows Breton to create social media material while also powering the house’s lights and devices.

Breton pays $25 per month for his 4G wifi router, which provides internet connection through antennae mounted to his house and connected to an eight-mile-away mobile tower.

Along with the main treehouse, Breton built two extra “houses” on his property: a greenhouse and an outhouse.

He claims that the greenhouse is where he grows his own food, including green beans, broccoli, beets, lettuce, and carrots. He says he occasionally treks down to the neighbouring town to get grains and other supplies.
