After finding that his fiancée had reportedly been unfaithful, he stabbed her to death near their wailing newborn in a murder-suicide.
Carlos Diaz, 25, of Florida, USA, became infuriated on May 26 and murdered Amanda Hicks, 26, before turning a gun on himself in their Port St. Lucie condominium as their 11-month-old daughter Alani sobbed in her crib, according to a friend of the instructor.
“She said they were working through it,” a friend of Hicks said. “But, among other things, I believe that was the source of his rage.” “I’m in a blind rage.”
After meeting at a Port St. Lucie school where they both previously worked, the pair had been dating for about three years.
However, their relationship had deteriorated when Hicks had recently had an abortion and Diaz’s family became suspicious that he wasn’t the father, according to insiders.

Diaz discovered Hicks had cheated on him several months before, but the lady downplayed her infidelity as a minor blunder.
Hicks erased Diaz’s social media profiles because she was upset about her adultery. She insisted the child belonged to Diaz after becoming pregnant. But his family members, with whom they were residing in Stuart, Florida at the time, were skeptical, and she aborted the kid.
“We knew he had a history of being aggressive,” stated a source. “As a result, we were concerned. But she assured us that they were working through it and that they would be fine.”
Living in a crowded flat with his family had also harmed their relationship, and her heavy drinking had been a bone of friction between the pair, according to friends.
Three weeks before the murder-suicide, the couple moved into the Port St. Lucie apartment with their young daughter in an attempt to mend their broken relationship.
“They were madly in love,” a source revealed. “Amanda had been in a couple of bad relationships with very controlling boyfriends.” But she was overjoyed with Carlos.”
However, Diaz’s pal stated that he was no longer devoted to mending their relationship.
“He wanted full custody of the baby and was trying to figure out how to do that,” according to the source. “She had no idea, but he was going to leave her.”
Diaz’s plans changed abruptly on the morning of May 26. He contacted a family member several times, but no one answered. A neighbor reported hearing piercing cries a short time afterwards.
“We assumed it was simply a brawl. “You get a lot of that around here,” the Post’s neighbor said.
At 12:47 a.m., a Ring camera captured the sound of a single gunshot, which authorities think Diaz fired himself. Alani had been in her crib beside her parents’ dead bodies for 11 hours before police arrived in response to a relative’s request for a welfare check.
They kicked in the door after hearing the child wail. Alani, the baby, has subsequently been placed with Diaz’s parents.
Before they started dating, both of them had minor run-ins with the law. Diaz was charged with assault in 2020 after a fight at a pub, while Hicks was charged with DUI twice in 2019 and 2021, according to court documents.
Hicks’ mother passed away from cancer several years ago, and she had never met her father. She started teaching sixth and seventh grade reading at Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School in Stuart in 2019.
