Man killed by a car while trying to help family of ducks cross the road

A driver in California killed a guy who was attempting to assist a family of ducks crossing the road.

 

 

The Rocklin Police Department reported in a press statement that at around 8.15 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, a man parked his automobile at the intersection of Park Drive and Standford Ranch Boulevard in Rocklin, California, to help escort a group of ducklings off the road to safety.

A adolescent driver driving eastbound on Stanford Ranch Boulevard struck the man while he was rescuing the duck family.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to aid, however the man who was assisting the ducklings died at the site.

 

According to local news site KCRA, the driver, a 17-year-old female, remained at the scene and no arrests were made. The situation is being investigated.

 

According to one witness, a 12-year-old child, numerous cars stopped to let the man help the ducks and began clapping for him.

 

“He got out of the car and started shooing the ducks, and everyone was clapping because he was being really nice,” the young boy explained. “He helped them get up on the curb because all of the little baby duckies were having trouble.”

The 12-year-old child said he and his mother pulled down the window to thank the man for his kindness, but he was killed by a car seconds later.

“All I remember is hearing the sound and then seeing him flying across the intersection,” the 12-year-old claimed.

 

Another witness, Summer Peterson, told CBS News that her children witnessed the incident as well.

 

“‘Oh, it’s so cute,’ they said. It’s incredibly thoughtful of him.’ “And then he was hit by a car,” Ms Peterson explained.

 

The identity of the man has not been confirmed by police, but according to a GoFundMe page set up by a family member of the purported man who died, he was the father of two small children and a husband.

“Casey was the kindest, most amazing husband and father,” the GoFundMe page adds.

“Even his final act in this world demonstrated his compassion.” The family is trying to figure out how to recuperate and go forward after such a devastating loss.
