Lagos: Two EKEDC staff electrocuted to death

The Lagos State Police Command has revealed that two Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) employees were electrocuted in Lagos Island’s Obalande neighborhood.

SP According to Benjamin Hundeyin, Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos, the matter was reported to the command’s Lion Building Division on Saturday about 5.55 p.m. by another member of the EKEDC from Lagos Island.

According to the EKEDC employee, one of his coworkers, simply named as Umaru, 51, was electrocuted while digging to find a defective transformer cable in the P&T Obalende area.

“During the process, another colleague, Sunday Awaruwa, 48, who attempted to rescue the victim, was also electrocuted.”

“According to the report, investigators arrived at the scene, photographed it, rescued the victims, and took them to Lagos Island General Hospital, where the doctor on duty pronounced them dead.

“Their remains were taken to the IDH Morgue in Yaba for autopsy.” Meanwhile, an investigation is underway,” he stated.
