The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State’s Kaura Local Government Area has urged security agents to take note of the Labour Party’s threat to pursue and reclaim its mandate, which it claims was stolen through over-voting, ballot stuffing, and electoral malfeasance by its House of Representatives candidate, Gideon Gwani, in the presidential and National Assembly elections on February 25.
Donatus Shemang, the party’s spokesman in the local government, told reporters in Kaduna on Saturday that the worst part is that members of the Labour Party in the local government are allegedly threatening the legal luminary, Samuel Atung SAN, not to defend his client (PDP) in the matter, claiming that it demonstrates how naive, ignorant, and airheaded they are.
“Worst of all is threatening the legal luminary, Samuel Atung SAN (son of the soil), not to defend his client (PDP) in this matter, demonstrating how naive, ignorant, and airheaded they are,” he said. It is naive for LP urchins to believe they can intimidate anyone into giving up on this matter. Anyone who breaks the law or is obstinate against the law will face the full wrath of the law for their consumption. He will be dealt with appropriately.”
As law-abiding citizens of Nigeria, the spokesman urged all PDP members to remain calm, assuring them that the party was exploring all legal options to reclaim the stolen mandate won by the party during the presidential and National Assembly elections in the area.
He stated that the PDP refused to concede defeat following the February 25th, 2023 election due to over-voting and ballot stuffing in some wards on election day.
He went on to say that reclaiming the party’s mandate is a party matter, not an individual one, and that members of the Labour Party in the area should call on him and the party to withdraw the case filed at the post-election tribunal, which is set to begin in Kaduna soon.
“We find it awful to ask the PDP and Gideon Gwani not to seek redress in court when the election that the LP candidate won was marred by fraudulent activities in some wards,” Donatus said. We would also like to state that our candidate’s request to withdraw the suit against LP and its candidate has been denied.
“The call lacks foundation, it is hollow because it lacks constitutional support.” Furthermore, the LP in Kaura has a dual tendency, begging the PDP and its candidate to withdraw while insulting and blackmailing our candidate and threatening everyone.”
