- On Sunday, the nationwide collection of Permanent Voter Cards came to an end, and the Independent National Electoral Commission made no mention of whether it might have continued.
PVC collecting, originally slated to expire on January 29, 2023, has been extended by INEC to February 5, 2023, as previously reported.
Festus Okoye, the INEC commissioner in charge of voter registration, announced the extension in a statement issued in Abuja, noting that the choice had been made after careful consideration with Resident Electoral Commissioners from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Prof. Ike Uzochukwu, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, reported that as of February 3, 2023, over 200,000 PVCs in the Abia state were still outstanding.
According to Adeniran Tella, the REC for Oyo State, as of February 1, 2023, more than 800,000 PVCs were still in INEC’s possession.
Uthman Ajidagba, the REC in Nasarawa State, also mentioned that as of February 4, 2023, 9,710 PVCs were still in the commission’s possession.
Our correspondent also discovered that as of January 25, 2023, Enugu State had over 200,000 PVCs that had not yet been collected.
As of February 4, 2023, 309,188 PVCs had not yet been collected in the Federal Capital Territory.
