Anthony Joshua that he would quit boxing if American fighter Jermaine Franklin beat him.
The forthcoming heavyweight boxing bout between the two is slated to place on Saturday, April 1, at the O2 Arena in Greenwich, London.
Joshua, a two-time former unified world heavyweight champion, was initially slated to battle Tyson Fury in a contest but it was not conducted owing to sponsorship concerns.
Joshua views Saturday’s contest as a chance to go back to form after losing to Oleksandr Usyk in August of 2022.
“I will resign if I lose.”
“I’m not here to combat anybody. If people want me to retire I will retire. I’m not going to fight if people don’t want me to.
“It’s not even about the money. It’s about the competitor in you. That’s what’s important,” he remarked.
Yet, Joshua said Franklin should consider Saturday’s match as a chance to meet him.
“You’ve got Jermaine Franklin here, who is around 28 pounds lighter than he was versus Dillian Whyte’s fight.
‘He’s suddenly got a six-pack and this is what happens when you’re fighting Anthony Joshua. It’s an opportunity for him [Franklin] to propel himself into the realm of the heavyweight division.”
He stated that he will enjoy and live a loving life until his retirement, despite the strain endured in his job.
“I know when I am retired, I am going to be relaxing.
“‘You guys put so much pressure on me that when I am done, the shackles are going to be gone. I am going to be happy and appreciating life,” he remarked.
