A US university professor accused of engaging in bestiality with his pet dog has explained why he did it.
Themis Matsoukas, 64, is accused of performing a sexual act with his border collie dog at Rothrock State Forest, Pennsylvania, USA.
Matsoukas has been a professor of chemical engineering at Penn State University since 1991. He has authored several books and received numerous teaching honors.

The video of the incident, which was recorded earlier this year, is alleged to show the Pennsylvania State University professor naked from the waist down save for socks and shoes near some toilets.
The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources initiated an inquiry after watching the tape and, according to a criminal complaint, identified Matsoukas through personal belongings and his dog.
According to Fox43, the disturbed academician told investigators he did it to “blow off steam.”
On Tuesday, June 13, he was charged with open lewdness, indecent exposure, sexual intercourse with an animal, as well as summary charges of cruelty to animals and disorderly behavior.
Investigators allegedly caught him in the act in May after identifying the teacher using numerous items visible in the footage, including his collie, a North Face bag, a ski mask, and an electronic tablet.
According to court filings, Matsoukas seemed ‘visibly nervous’ when officials executed orders to search his residence.
He initially denied any knowledge of the sexual acts, but panicked when cops told him they thought he understood why they were there, according to the report.
Officers said he started repeating, ‘I’m done, I’m dead,’ over and over. According to the records, he then urged authorities to kill him, telling them, “I need to die.”
When asked about the motivation behind the acts, he stated, ‘I do it to blow off steam’.
According to the documents, his inappropriate behavior dates back to at least 2014.
According to fox43.com, he also allegedly recorded himself while performing the actions on an electronic tablet.
The inquiry into the case is still ongoing.
