Houston mother sentenced to life in prison for beating her infant daughter to death

Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced that a Houston mother was sentenced to life in prison for fatally assaulting her infant daughter.

Tradezsha Trenay Bibbs, 29, was sentenced on Monday, April 3, after being convicted of felony murder in the death of Brielle Robinson, four months old, on April 16, 2016.

Bibbs had already been convicted of capital murder, but the conviction was overturned and he was retried.

Authorities were called to the Red Carpet Inn on the Gulf Freeway in 2016, where they discovered Bibbs sharing a room with Brielle.

Bibbs told officials she heard her daughter wailing and grabbed her up by the arms and dropped her on the bed, causing her to fall to the floor, according to court documents filed at the time. Bibbs is accused of repeatedly striking her kid in the face, chest, ribs, and legs until the youngster stopped sobbing.

Brielle was sent to Texas Children’s Hospital, where physicians discovered she had many fractures and significant brain damage.

Bibbs initially told officials that Brielle had slipped from her car seat to the concrete, but later admitted to fabricating the narrative. She told police that after checking into the motel with the infant, she lost concern about the child’s safety and repeatedly dropped her on the mattress and “popped” her in the face.

Bibbs told investigators that she repeatedly struck the infant in the ribs and chest until she stopped wailing, but she contacted 911 once the baby stopped breathing.

Bibbs killed her daughter, according to Assistant District Attorney Keaton Forcht, because the baby’s father no longer wanted a relationship with the mother.

During the week-long trial, jurors heard evidence that Bibbs did not appear interested in the baby’s medical care or the repercussions of the fatal head injuries she inflicted.

Forcht stated, “Bibbs deserved a life sentence for what she did to her child.” “She beat her countless times and seemed to care as much about her daughter’s death as she did about her daughter’s life.”

“Our office stands up for all victims,” Ogg said, “but a baby is the most innocent of victims.” “We thought a life sentence was appropriate for this heinous murder, and the Harris County jury agreed.”
