The gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has indicated that he would defend the votes of his supporters in the election conducted on Saturday.

He made this known through a tweet on his Twitter profile on Sunday.

He stated, “Firstly, I would want to thank all Lagosians, particularly our fans, for turning out to vote yesterday for us. I’m certain that with you in our camp, a new Nigeria is near.

“However, I am disturbed by the verified accounts of violence and massive disenfranchisement of voters who merely sought to execute their civic duty.

“Attacks on polling stations, voters, and our party agents are utterly contrary to what we stand for & what Lagos genuinely symbolizes.

“Collusion between the governing party and election authorities to return the candidate of the All Progressives Congress is a slap on the face of democracy and everyone who came out to vote for us on Saturday.

“In light of this, I am certain without any question that the results being presented by the Independent National Electoral Commission do not reflect the aspirations of the majority of peaceful Lagosians.

“More so, the findings from our field agents and situation room suggested that we won this election. I am a champion of the people. We are far from done. Do not lose hope, do not waver.

“This is not finished, we have not gone this far to tolerate flagrant lying, crimes and deceit. A battle for freedom is never easily won.”

“Every vote cast for me was done in the face of intimidation and danger of personal violence. Every such vote must count. Protecting every one of those votes is a holy obligation. I will protect your votes — this is my commitment to every LP voter.”
