Simon Ekpa, a former Radio Biafra anchorman, has been arrested in Finland, gistpeople reports
Ekpa was apprehended on Thursday, 48 hours before Nigeria’s general elections began.
The Central Criminal Police’s Criminal Investigator, Tommi Reen, told the HS news outlet that the Keskusrikospoliisi (KRP), Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), had a police operation in a private apartment in the center of Lahti.

According to Reen, the operation was related to an ongoing preliminary investigation. He didn’t say anything else about it.
Nigeria had requested that Finland intervene in Ekpa’s activities. Godfrey Onyeama, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, invited the Finnish ambassador, Leena Pylvänäinen, to a meeting last week.
The former athlete and legal practitioner from Finland is well-known for his critical remarks about the country and its leaders.
In recent years, the political activist has spoken out against the country’s unity, insisting that the Republic of Biafra be established.
Ekpa stepped up his campaigns following the re-arrest and repatriation of Nnamdi Kanu, the founder of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in June 2021.
