Former Kaduna governors should swear that they never embezzled money ~ El-Rufai

Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna State, has asserted that he has never stolen money from the state’s coffers and that he is willing to swear under oath to support his claims.

The governor threatened to expose his predecessors for stealing from the state coffers, challenging them to come out to swear as well if their hands are clean.

This was expressed by El-Rufai during a Hausa interview that was being broadcast on a local radio and television station. He also added that he is aware that there will come a day of reckoning.

El-Rufai declared that all loans obtained during his administration to support projects in the state were only used for the designated projects, adding, “The people can see that we performed those projects with the funds we got. We didn’t take the money and buy houses in Dubai or travel to Jabi Road and erect a mansion there.

“We are not like those individuals. With just one house on Danja Street in Unguwan Sarki Kaduna, I was elected governor of Kaduna State. Alhamdulillah, I’ve finished my term here, and that’s the only residence I own. I don’t own any other residences. I did not construct a mansion. Even I don’t need it.

“I did not steal anyone’s money, and I am challenging the Kaduna government to come out and testify that they have never taken anyone else’s money,”

I’m ready to swear, Wahallah. I’m putting the former governors on the spot to appear in front of Kaduna State’s citizens and swear they’ve never taken any of their money.

He said, “We know them; they are not the offspring of Dantata, the illustrious Kano billionaire, nor are they the offspring of Dangote. From whence do they receive the funding to construct those homes? What was their line of work?

Yet, the governor acknowledged that his administration still had work to do while taking pride in the projects already achieved, particularly the state’s highways.

“I’m delighted that we built high-quality roads that would last for years, not that kind of roads they’ve built in the past that would be awful after two years or two wet seasons,” he remarked.

“There is still work to be done. All of Kaduna’s roads are to be tarred, according to our plan. Nobody visiting Kaduna would encounter a muddy road. You may travel around the entire town on paved roads and see solar-powered streetlights. That’s what we had in mind for Kaduna, Kafanchan, Zaria, and all other Local Government Areas, including Soba. What we want to see is that.

“Unfortunately, due to the challenges our government faced, we were unable to fully realize all of our development ambitions. To complete those initiatives, we had to seek loans.
