In a diary entry shared on Twitter on March 1 to announce his new album, Sheeran said a series of events at the beginning of last year changed his life, mental health, and the way he views music and art.
“Within a month, my pregnant wife was told she had a tumor, with no treatment options until after the birth,” he wrote. My best friend Jamal, who was like a brother to me, died unexpectedly, and I found myself in court defending my integrity and songwriter career.
Jamal Edwards, a music entrepreneur, passed away in February.
In addition, artist Sami Switch accused Ed Sheeran of plagiarism, and the case went to court. In 2022, Sheeran won the case.
“I was spiraling through fear, depression, and anxiety,” Ed Sheeran wrote. I felt like I was drowning, my head below the surface, searching for air but not being able to break through.”
In the post, Ed announced the release of his sixth studio album, Subtract, explaining that it was inspired by personal tragedies he had faced.
“Writing songs is my therapy,” he wrote. It assists me in making sense of my emotions. I wrote without planning the songs; I just wrote whatever came to mind. And in just over a week, I was able to replace a decade’s worth of work with my own.
In May 2022, the musician announced the birth of his second daughter, saying he and Cheery Seaborn were “so in love with her, and over the moon to be a family of four.”
He hasn’t said anything else about his wife’s condition.
