Cristiano Ronaldo, the world’s most famous footballer, has made history by becoming the first male player to feature in 200 international matches.
Guinness World Records honored Ronaldo, 38, before their Euro 2024 qualifier against Iceland on Tuesday night, June 20.
He also marked the occasion by scoring the game-winning goal in the 89th minute of Portugal’s 1-0 triumph against Iceland in European Championship qualifying.
With 123 goals, he is also Portugal’s all-time leading scorer.
Ronaldo and Portugal won the European Championship in 2016, and they also won the Nations League in 2019.
‘Two hundred games played illustrates the devotion I have for my country,’ Ronaldo remarked before of the game against Iceland, according to ESPN.It is a significant milestone for me. It means a lot to me. [Two hundred] is a lovely number that [no men’s player] possesses.
‘I’m incredibly proud since this is something I never believed I’d be able to achieve. And I’m still breaking records.’
Ronaldo became the first male player to score in five World Cups last year in the World Cup in Qatar. With ten international hat-tricks, he also holds the record for the most international hat-tricks.
