The collapse of building construction is on the increase in recent time in Nigeria. A two-storey building has again collapsed in Rivers State resulting to the death of three of the construction labourers.
The Rivers Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Michael Ogar, who led personnel of the Corps on a search and rescue operation, attributed the incident to the use of substandard materials in the construction of the two-storey building.
It was reported that the materials used in the building construction such as blocks, rods and pillars were sub-standard, the governmental agency saddled with the responsibility of ensuring standards in construction should ensure that building developers who breach the law are not left unpunished.
