Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have had their fourth child through surrogacy.

The famous couple startled their Instagram followers by announcing the arrival of their son Wren Alexander on Wednesday, June 28.

The joyful parents had not revealed to their fans that they were expecting another child until now. The child was born on June 19, 2023, and his surrogate, Alexandra, inspired his middle name.

Chrissy, 37, and her husband, 44, welcomed their third child, a daughter named Esti, just a few months ago. The couple also has a seven-year-old daughter Luna and a four-year-old boy Miles.

Her and John’s baby Jack died 20 weeks into her pregnancy, so the joyous news came nearly two years later.

Chrissy discussed her late son Jack in her lengthy essay, as well as the surrogacy procedure and seeing Alexandra, dubbed “the most beautiful woman,” give birth to her child.

Chrissy also talked about going through IVF again and getting pregnant with Esti, despite her initial aversion to having another child after losing Jack.

She was even expecting a child at the same time as Alexandra. Chrissy found out she was expecting Esti shortly after Alexandra found out she was expecting Wren.

‘I’ve always wanted four children since I can remember. As a child, I had two glow worms and two cabbage patch dolls in my arms all the time, helping me stir in my pretend kitchen and watching Alf with me. We’d sleep together every night, both getting the equal number of kisses so as not to make the other jealous. My mother always looked for the Pound Puppy with four puppies in her pouch, and she had no qualms about opening it and peering inside before purchasing.

‘I didn’t think I’d be able to bear any more babies on my own after losing Jack. To be honest, I’ve blocked out a lot of my thoughts during that time, but one vivid memory is being surrounded by individuals who wanted to make sure I didn’t have to go through that grief and loss again.’We contacted a surrogacy agency in 2021, with our initial email inquiring about perhaps having two tandem surrogates, each bringing us a healthy baby boy or girl. Twins, sort of?

‘At some point, early in our surrogacy adventure, I came out of a therapy session, walked downstairs and said to John – I want to try to carry just one more time. We’ll be fine if it doesn’t work. We’ve already witnessed the worst. I pledged that no matter what occurred, I would be fine. I recall stating that I couldn’t live my life wondering if I should have tried again.

‘So we restarted the IVF process, the same process that produced our beautiful Luna and Miles. We created fresh embryos. We completed my transfer and were overjoyed to learn that it had been successful – we were expecting our daughter, Esti.

‘Around this time, we also met Alexandra, the most beautiful, caring, sensitive surrogate we could have imagined. The instant we chatted with her, I knew she was the one. All of our hopes and ambitions came true. I wanted to be her friend, I wanted our kids to play together, I wanted to eat dinner with her, and I wanted to rest my head on her belly and feel the hiccups and kicks. I wanted them to be a part of our lives for as long as time allowed.

‘The first embryo we tried with Alex did not survive, and I will never forget how hard she worked to prepare for a second transfer. How much she gave up of her own body – procedures to remove scar tissue, the mental toll of going through all of that for yourself, let alone for others.

‘Not wanting to hasten the process, we took a deep breath and… waited. I lay around, enjoying the first trimester of my pregnancy, with a little bit of fear that any other expectant couple would have. We were pleased to find Alexandra had become pregnant with a little boy as we creeped towards the safe zone of my own pregnancy. Our youngster.

‘To celebrate, we ate hot pot and watched Vanderpump Rules with our swelling tummies, our families merging into one for the past year.’

Chrissy also expressed gratitude to Alexandra for carrying their child. His surrogate’s name inspired his middle name, Alexander.

‘I got to witness the most beautiful woman, my friend, our surrogate, give birth amidst a little of commotion, but with strength and pure joy and love, just minutes before midnight on June 19th.
