A Burundian woman was charged with theft under Section 268 (1) as read with Section 275 of the penal code after allegedly ransacking her boyfriend’s house and stealing Sh17, 000, assorted clothes and shoes totaling Sh22, 000.
On Friday, March 3, 2023, Edwisha Ndaikenza appeared before Makadara Law Courts in Nairobi, Kenya.
On February 21, 2023, Ndaikenza was charged with stealing the cash and items from Ndabarushimana Claude, also a Burundian national, at his home in Shauromoyo, Kamukunji sub-county, Nairobi, Kenya.
On the material day, the two were at Mr. Claude’s house when the complainant left the accused person in the sitting room and went to sleep.
At around 5 a.m., Ms. Ndaikenza woke him up and informed him that the house had been broken into.
Mr. Claude quickly searched the house and discovered that the cash and clothes were missing.
He told the cops that after further investigation, he discovered that the door to the house had not been broken as claimed by his girlfriend.
While discussing the incident with his neighbors, one of them mentioned seeing Ms Ndaikenza leave with a bag the night before.
He reported the incident to the Shaurimoyo police station and gave a statement.
Ndaikenza was apprehended and nothing was recovered.
She denied the charges in front of Makadara Law Courts’ Principal Magistrate Lewis Gatheru.
The accused was released on Sh10,000 cash bail.
The case will be mentioned on March 16th, 2023, before the hearing begins on July 26th, 2023.
