No rift exists between me and Buhari, says Tinubu.
Prior to the February 25 elections, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), stated at Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, that he would continue to back Bola Tinubu’s bid for the presidency.
At the Lafia Square presidential campaign rally, where he endorsed the candidacies of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kashim Shettima, and Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa for a second term, Buhari told party supporters, “I have known him for more than 20 years ago, and I will continue to campaign for Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
This is according to a statement headlined “I’ll continue to advocate for Tinubu, President Buhari says in” that was written by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity.
In order to show their support for the party’s candidates in the upcoming presidential and governorship elections, party members defied the heat and stood in the sun for hours, according to Buhari.
I congratulate you and promise that, with God’s help, we will prevail completely.
“As Tinubu stated in his address, I have known Bola Ahmed Tinubu for more than 20 years and would continue to support him.
He is a devout Nigerian, and I have no doubt that he would give Nigeria his all.
He urged people to choose Abdullahi Sule to be the governor for the second and final time.
The APC presidential candidate poked fun of people who said there was tension between him and the President.
“Those who think there are holes in our friendship and relationship will continue to be disappointed and have their short-term joy curtailed,” he asserted.
“Ours is not about the individual but about nation building, honesty, integrity and character.”
Tinubu thanked the President for being the ‘‘poster boy’’ of his campaign, fighting and working hard for the survival of Nigeria.
He said ‘‘Nigeria is surviving as a nation.
“Because of constitutional democracy, we would have asked you to continue, but you said no, you are going back to Daura, your hometown.”
Likening Buhari to the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, Tinubu praised him for remaining focused amidst distractions.
He promised that under his presidency, Nigeria will recover from all challenges because of the courage and resilience of its citizens.
