BEDC staff electrocuted in Edo

Must read

A man who has yet to be identified as a BEDC employee was electrocuted while repairing an electric pole near the University of Benin’s Ekehuan campus.

On Thursday, May 11, 2023, the incident occurred while the deceased was on duty.

In an online video, a man wearing safety clothes with the inscription BEDC was seen dangling from an electric pole.

According to witnesses, the man was held up on the pole and electrocuted before they could switch off the transformer.

“The man was trying to fix one of the falling wires when he was electrocuted,” a witness claimed.

“I don’t believe the light was turned off from the central switch before he started working on the repair.” When power was restored, he was already close to the high-tension line and was electrocuted.

“He was there for about 20 minutes before people noticed what was going on with him.” But it was probably too late.”

When reached, Evelyn Gbiwen, Public Relations Officer of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, stated she had heard about the event but didn’t have any specifics yet.
