An inquest heard that a baby girl drowned while playing in the bath with her two older twin brothers, gistpeople reports
Sara Moosa, 10 months old at the time, drowned at home in only five inches of water in August 2022.
According to an inquest held at Leicester Town Hall, their mother was supervising the three children while the tap was running without being plugged in.
When one of the brothers asked for his shark toy, the mother went to get it, and when she returned, Sara was lying on her side in the bath, her face submerged.
A plastic toy had become stuck over the plug hole, causing the bath to fill up.
“Sara and her two siblings were in the bath with the water running but no plug in,” coroner Isobel Thistlethwaite explained.
“One of the siblings requested a toy. When the mother returned, she discovered that another toy had blocked the plug hole.
“The two siblings were standing up, and Sara was underwater on her side.”
The family dialed 999 right away, and a call operator instructed them on how to perform CPR.
A paramedic testified at the inquest that when they arrived, they found Sara downstairs on the kitchen counter, where her family was attempting to resuscitate her.
The medics took control and transported Sara to an ambulance before transporting her to Leicester Royal Infirmary with her mother.
Sara, however, could not be saved, and she died on August 14, last year, at the hospital.
A post-mortem examination determined she drowned.
Miss Thistlethwaite recorded an accidental death conclusion and added, “No concerns were raised by the police following an inspection of the scene.”
