Fatima Rahman, 42, was arrested and brought before Magistrate P.E Nwaka at the Yaba Magistrate court on April 9 for allegedly stabbing her pregnant co-wife, Adiza, to death at her home in Alejo Street, Ijede, in the Ikorodu region of Lagos State.
Rahman, who is supposed to be from the Chad Republic, allegedly became enraged after her husband chose Adiza as his second wife. She allegedly went to the deceased’s house disguised as a nurse and stabbed her to death. After deep wounds were discovered on the deceased’s neck and head, a neighbour who saw Rahman when she arrived at the residence was said to have indicted her.
During her arraignment, the prosecuting attorney, Thomas Nurudeen, told the court that Rahman committed the crime around 12.40 p.m. that day.

“That you, Fatima Abdul Rahman, unlawfully killed one Adizat Abdul Rahman, 28-year-old, by stabbing her with a knife on April 9, 2023, around 12.40 pm, at 43, Alero Street, Ijede Road, Ikorodu, Lagos State in the Lagos Magisterial District, and thus committed an offence contrary to Section 222 and punishable under Section 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”
The court did not accept Rahman’s plea. The prosecutor requested that the defendant be remanded to a detention center for legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
The Magistrate granted the request and ordered Rahman to be remanded in the Ikoyi Custodial Centre until legal advice could be obtained. Nwaka postponed the trial until May 25, 2023.
