The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, was  scheduled for yesterday, at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, United States.

Many Nigerians looked forward to the debut of Nigerian musician, Temilade Oyeniyi, on the nomination list.

It will be noted that the artist had received a Grammy award last month on February 5.

However, Tems will also become an Oscar award winner should Rihanna win the prize in the category even if the nominees’ list shows Tems as a contributor to the “music and lyrics” of the project.

The requirements for the 95th award presentation concerning the “Music (Original Score) category” states: “Only the major composer(s) or songwriter(s) responsible for the idea and execution of the work as a whole will be eligible for an award.

It added, “Expressly excluded from eligibility are all of the following: partial contributors (i.e., any writer not responsible for the overall design of the work), contributors working on speculation, producers and/or arrangers not responsible for the creation of the original song or score music supervisors,” it added.

It was reported that this Multiverse sci-fi hit “Everything Everywhere All at Once” earns 11 nominations while Irish dark comedy “The Banshees of Inisherin” and World War I picture “All Quiet on the Western Front” gets nine.

Winners in various categories are awarded a duplicate of a golden statuette known as a trophy officially named the “Academy Award of Merit”.
