“Don’t push us into unemployment” close to 1500 Sacked teachers plead with Adeleke over their jobs in Osun state.
Some teachers in Osun state whose appointments were affected by the Executive Order issued by Governor Ademola Adeleke on Monday thronged the streets of Osogbo protesting against their firing.
The teachers who were demonstrating peacefully begged the Governor to reexamine the Executive Order, to restore them to the state teaching service to reestablish their dignity as residents of the state.
Governor Adeleke following his inauguration on November 27 last year, issued an Executive Order mandating the evaluation of personnel hired in the state public service after July 16 in the state and the committee investigating the problem has yet to present its findings since December last year.
Speaking with newsmen, one of the leaders of the unhappy teachers, Isola Eunice claimed their recruitment process began far back in 2020 before they were hired in batches by the prior government in 2021 and 2022
“We are out here to guarantee that Mr Governor hears our appeals. We are residents of this state who followed due procedure before we were ultimately hired last year September. Our families rely on us to provide means of living and only for us to be put back into the trenches before we could receive our paychecks. We ask the governor to reconsider our concerns to restore us to our various locations of main assignments,” she stated
Also, a Deputy Coordinator of the group, Emmanuel Adedeji said the group wants the governor to hear their prayers before another set would die of despair, which has cost the lives of four of their colleagues.
“We don’t want anyone of us to die before our prayers will be heard by the governor. We have been extremely attentive with work since were sent to our different places of employment and the head of those schools would witness these facts. We are enthusiastic about what we do and encourage the governor not to put us back on the streets”, he continued.
The protesting teachers who represented their other colleagues who could not leave their places of work were holding different placards with inscriptions, such as; “Please Reinstate us”, “Please save our lives”, “We follow due process”, “We are Citizens of Osun”, “We lost four colleagues, consider our plights”, among others.
