Ejiofor, who is also the YABATECH Head of Public Relations, told the Newsmen on Friday that the college administration, led by Ag Rector, Uduak Inyang-Udoh, Dean of Students, and Mr Tunji Balogun, had visited and confirmed her claim.

According to Ejiofor, despite the fact that the young girl drank a chemical substance suspected to be sniper, she was quickly rescued after her roommate raised an alarm on Wednesday.

“This is to inform the college community and the general public that there is no truth to the rumour that Destiny, the ND1 Marketing student who attempted suicide, has died.

“The College management has visited her and we can authoritatively say that she’s alive, responding well to treatment and her parents have been contacted and they are with her in the hospital.

“She was quickly taken to the College Medical Centre where she was attended to and stabilized by the Medical Director, Dr. Tunde Nubi, and his team,” he added.

The deputy registrar, who condemned the act, wondered why such a young girl would want to end her life.

“However, I can assure you that the reason is unrelated to the rumors that she was arrested for exam malpractice or that she was dumped by her boyfriend.

“Suicide is a major public health concern on a campus like ours,” he added.

When a student commits suicide, the effects are felt not only by immediate family, relatives, and friends, but also by the entire college community, according to him.

“As a responsible and responsive management, we try to guard against such an evil act as much as possible through a series of orientation programs organized for students during their studies,” Ejiofor explained.

He stated that suicide should never be considered as an option, regardless of one’s circumstances or situation.
