Ebonyi communal crisis: One beheaded, properties destroyed

In a new crisis between the people of Oso-Edda and Amasiri in Ebonyi State, one person was beheaded and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed, gistpeople reports

Oso-Edda is located in the Afikpo South local government area, while Amasiri and Nde Ndukwe are located in the Afikpo North local government area.

 

According to the reports, the communities have had a land dispute at their border for years, but it has been managed and kept from becoming violent until this week.

 

According to locals, the crisis began when the Nde Ndukwe and Amasiri people invaded farm settlement villages in s?-Edda and began destroying houses, farm produce, and everything in sight.

 

The invasion began on Monday, February 6, and continued until Wednesday, when security forces intervened to restore normalcy.

 

According to reports, the invaders brutally murdered and beheaded one Chima Orji of Idima Autonomous Community in Afikpo South local government. The assailants took the head and it has yet to be found.

 

Okporojo village in Oso-Edda has been reduced to rubble and ruins, according to reports.

 

Four people were kidnapped but later released following a peace meeting organized by the Chairmen of both councils in collaboration with some Monarchs and the Heads of Security Agencies in the area.

 

Chima Ekumankama, chairman of Afikpo South local government area, confirmed the incident in a statement and described the situation as pathetic and painful, urging the entire Edda clan to remain law-abiding.

 

I, Hon. Prince Chima Ekumankama, wish to appeal to the good people of Okporojo, Oso, and Edda Clan in general, to remain calm and law-abiding in the aftermath of the unwarranted invasion of Okporojo in Oso and other parts of Edda Clan by our neighbors, Nde Ndukwe and Amasiri of Afikpo North LGA, where properties, “He stated.

 

“While I sympathize with all those affected, I implore the good people of Oso and Edda in general to remain calm and carry on with their lawful businesses until the situation is resolved,? he said.
