Jada Pinkett Smith has professed her admiration for late rapper Tupac Shakur, using a term that appears to be a dig at her husband Will Smith, with whom she has been estranged for seven years.
In an interview with RollingOut’s Christal Jordan on Thursday, October 12, ahead of the release of her tell-all biography, Jada identified Tupac as her one genuine “soulmate,” despite her 24 years of marriage to Will Smith.
The actress, who acknowledged to having little chemistry with Pac, also said that he proposed marriage to her and she declined.
During the conversation, Jordan asked Jada if she thought there could be a “soulmate friendship” without the romantic component. In response, Jada stated;
“Absolutely! We’re soulmates. Our children have the potential to be our soulmates. This romanticised image, I believe, is similar to a’soulmate.’ There are numerous definitions of a soulmate.
“But, you know, absolutely. If there are such things as past incarnations, I’m pretty sure Pac and I have had a few. You know, in a variety of shapes.”
The actress, who has spoken publicly about her friendship with Tupac, stated that any romantic engagement with him was impossible since they had “no chemistry.”
She said;
“It just wasn’t possible; there was no chemistry between us. Let me tell you, don’t think that ‘Pac and I, like I write in the book, we had those moments, and I wish I could get people to understand the repelling nature. It was almost like God made us that way.
“It was like, ‘Look, I’mma put y’all together, y’all are gonna be a dynamic duo, but I’mma tell you right now, I’mma make it so y’all are not gonna be able to get together.’ Cause that just wasn’t the purpose.”
