Kathryn Mayorga, who forfeited her right to confidentiality after alleging that Ronaldo raped her in a hotel room in Las Vegas in 2009, was paid £275,000 in hush money after the Portuguese player angrily disputed the allegations.

Ronaldo’s attorneys returned to court on Wednesday to fight the woman’s lawyers, who are attempting to force the Al-Nassr star to pay her millions extra.

After it was uncovered that one of the woman’s lawyers had utilised stolen personal papers, US District Judge Jennifer Dorsey dismissed their lawsuit to seek a larger compensation in June 2022.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has now been urged to reverse the dismissal and revive the civil complaint Mayorga first filed in Nevada in 2018.

Her attorneys will argue that prior attempts to incorporate the confidentiality agreement, which she signed in 2010 after receiving hush payments from the footballer, were repeatedly and incorrectly rejected by the federal judge.

Ronaldo, who became the world’s highest-paid footballer after signing a £177 million per year contract with Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr in January, has consistently disputed the allegations.

In October 2018, he published a statement in which he stated, “I firmly deny the accusations levelled against me.” Rape is a heinous act that contradicts everything I am and believe in.’

Ronaldo’s camp claims the secrecy agreement was struck to prevent either of them from talking about the sexual contact between him and Mayorga.

According to sources close to Ronaldo, the criminal case was dismissed by the Las Vegas district attorney, and the court dismissed both Mayorga’s civil complaint and appeal.
