Tony Snell, a former NBA player, has announced that he was diagnosed with autism last year.

The 31-year-old, who appeared on “Today” on Friday, June 16, said his son’s diagnosis inspired him to be checked out as well.

Snell admitted that the warning flags had been present throughout his life, and that he was frequently autonomous, alone, and failed to connect with people on a human basis.

He stated;

“I wasn’t surprised because I’d always felt odd.” I was relieved, as if to say, ‘Oh, this is why I am the way I am.’ And it made my entire existence, everything in my life, make so much sense.

“It was like putting on some 3-D glasses,” she says.

Snell feels that if he had known about his condition sooner, he would not have made it to the NBA because people would have “put a limit or cap on his abilities.”

The former 20th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft has played for the Bulls, Bucks, Pistons, Hawks, Trail Blazers, and Pelicans in his nine seasons in the league.

He presently plays for the Maine Celtics in the G League.
