Meghan Markle’s Archetypes podcast is axed by Spotify

After being dropped by Spotify, Meghan Markle’s Archetypes podcast will not be renewed for a second season.

On Thursday night, June 15, the streaming behemoth and Meghan and Prince Harry’s audio production company Archewell Audio issued a joint statement stating they had’mutually opted to split ways and are proud of the series we developed together.’

According to the Wall Street Journal, Meghan and her husband Harry reportedly inked a $20 million deal with Spotify for the project in late 2020, but insiders close to the audio giant believe that the royal pair did not fulfill the productivity goal required to get the whole amount.

The decision to cancel the Duchess of Sussex’s show, which explores the “labels that try to hold women back,” comes after months of talks about renewing it for a second season.

The Duchess, on the other hand, intends to continue producing podcasts and find a new home for her series, which has already included her tennis pal Serena Williams, music icon Mariah Carey, and South African comedian Trevor Noah.

The axing of the show comes after sources close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stated the pair would cease creating tell-all Netflix documentaries, releasing autobiographies, and going down for interviews that criticize the Royal Family, as they have ‘nothing left to say’.

Following the conclusion of the first season, Spotify was rumored to be in talks for a second season of Archetypes, but talks later halted.

‘The crew behind Archetypes remains proud of the show they developed at Spotify,’ said WME, which recently signed Meghan. Meghan is working on new content for the Archetypes audience on another platform.’
