Following a flood of complaints from irate locals, a coastal municipality in the south of the Netherlands has initiated a campaign to prevent visitors to its beaches from participating in public sexual acts.
‘Project Oranjezon,’ or ‘Orange Sun,’ is the result of numerous complaints to Veere council officials over “sex acts performed by naked recreationists,” causing the municipality to install signs advising flirty tourists that public sex is prohibited.
Authorities also warn those wishing for a few moments of privacy that there will be “increased monitoring” to ensure that “sexual meeting-place activities” do not take place.
“The dunes are hugely important to the local community and must be protected,” Veere mayor Frederiek Schouwenaar told The Observer last week. “This is an important step to ensure public order and safety.”

Among the concerns were that “certain groups” had been utilizing the sand dunes as a gathering place to engage in criminal activities in public, leaving residents hoping that future visits to the coast will be less X-rated.
“It was always a bit threatening,” Els den Dulk, 74, said last week to The Observer. “This has been going on for 20 years with a few unsavory types.”
The Aloha Beach restaurant’s owner, Marco Wiechert, stated he had witnessed several weird sights near his place. “Some people would rather do it outside than in their bedroom,” he explained to the publication. “And others may come to do it because it is forbidden.”
